Today, Scholastic announced the release of "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes", a prequel novel to Suzanne Collins' beloved "The Hunger Games" trilogy. The novel, set 64 years before the events of "The Hunger Games," explores the early life of Coriolanus Snow, the future president of Panem.

The novel follows Snow as an 18-year-old student at the Academy in the Capitol. As a mentor in the tenth annual Hunger Games, Snow is assigned to guide Lucy Gray Baird, a tribute from District 12. As the Games progress, Snow finds himself torn between his duty to the Capitol and his growing feelings for Lucy Gray.
